Most "microlearning" is just a normal course with a saw applied. That's not a design — that's a packaging change.
Pattern 1 — The single-decision module
One scenario, one choice, two minutes. The learner makes the call, sees the consequence, leaves. Best for refreshers and habit-changes.
Pattern 2 — The just-in-time card
Triggered by a workflow, not a calendar. A 90-second module that fires when a user opens a particular screen in your tool. We've built these embedded inside the actual workflow, not on the LMS.
Pattern 3 — The diagnostic check
Three questions, instant feedback, branching follow-up. Identifies where the learner needs the longer course — or proves they don't.
What none of them are
A 20-minute course with timestamp links. A short video. A PDF "summary card". If you can swap it for a paragraph in an email, it's not microlearning.
