AI avatars that don't make learners cringe

An AI avatar isn't a presenter. It's a narrator. The moment you treat it like the star of the show, the course breaks.

Three rules

  1. Under 90 seconds, every time. Long avatar segments are where engagement dies.
  2. Pair with on-screen text or motion. Never let the avatar carry the screen alone.
  3. Match the cultural register. A scripted avatar talking American-corporate to a UK frontline team is instant disconnect.

When to use a real person instead

Anything involving emotion, judgement, or organisational nuance. Avatars handle "the policy is X." A real CEO handles "we got this decision wrong, here's what we're doing."
